Road salt injury

Bushes adjacent to salted roads may exhibit flower bud death and twig dieback similar to that caused by cold temperatures. Salt spray blown onto bushes from roads reduces bud hardiness and increases winter injury.
Salt-induced injury is related to the distance and orientation relative to roads, and may extend 100 yards or more into roadside fields.
